The Secret to Managing Overwhelm


Do you ever feel overwhelmed by everything you need to do? Your list is long and you don’t know where to start. So you procrastinate. You check your email or scroll your social media feed. You feel anxious and stressed, unable to make a choice. And the cycle continues. Does this sound familiar? Would you like to get rid of overwhelm for good? I’ll let you in on a little secret. If you are currently feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, here's what you need to do. Notice your thinking. Your thoughts give your body energy. This energy is the fuel your body needs to drive it’s actions. If you think thoughts like, “I can’t do this.” “I can’t get it together.” “Everything is such a mess.” You will feel depleted of energy. Shift your thinking to thoughts like, “I can handle this.” “I can feel overwhelmed and keep moving forward.” “I am strong and capable.” “I just need to pick one thing.” Do you feel a little more motivated? Did changing your thoughts change the feeling in your body? This is the skill I want you to practice. Practice choosing thoughts that will create feelings of motivation, discipline, and confidence. Imagine the impact this would have on your life. Thoughts like; “I can do this.” “I can pick just one thing.” “It doesn’t matter where I start.” “I can handle this.” “I'm amazing.” “I’ve got this.” Decide to be done indulging in overwhelm. When you feel it come up, don’t allow it to control you. Instead, manage your thinking. Put the phone down. Pick one thing. Get it done. Notice a difference?
